“The man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read.”

―Mark Twain

Let me start with a question.

If given two choices, which one would you choose?

  1. Learn from your own mistakes made in the past 10 years?
  2. Learn from others’ mistakes made in the past 10 years compiled in a $10 book?

I bet you’d choose the latter. Why would you want to commit your own mistakes when you can learn from the same mistakes made by others?

This is where the power of reading comes into the picture.

Reading books is a great way to learn from the mistakes others have made in their lifetime.

For example,

  • If you want to be healthy, learn from someone who has been fit for a long time.
  • If you want to be wealthy, learn from someone who has become financially free.
  • If you want to be wise, learn from someone who has been reading and executing for a long time.
Solve problems you’re facing

“There is no problem you can have that someone hasn’t already solved and wrote about it in a book.”

―Will Smith

There is a solution to almost every problem you face (losing weight, building wealth, being happy, etc). When you face a problem, it is most likely that you’re not the first one to have faced it.

Authors have solved these issues and put their learnings in a book that may cost $10 or less and can be finished in 10 hours or less.

A small book is often the accumulation of hundreds of experiences, thousands of hours, and decades of work. Where else can you get the entire life’s work of someone in the space of a few hours?

For me, reading books is an integral part of my life. It is the backbone of the compounding project blog.

Books are an incredible source of knowledge. Books contain someone else’s knowledge — in many cases, gathered over a lifetime — and compressed into a few pages that can be read in just a few hours.

Consistent reading can bring you a fortune.

Book Recommendations

“In my whole life, I have known no wise people (over a broad subject matter area) who didn’t read all the time — none, zero. You’d be amazed at how much Warren reads — at how much I read. My children laugh at me. They think I’m a book with a couple of legs sticking out.”

―Charlie Munger
